Missions

Primary Mission

A continuous improvement or Lean engineer audits the processes within the organization in order to propose measures to improve their performance. He or she develops a roadmap for Lean implementation, taking into account technical and organizational factors as well as human factors, in order to address the four key objectives: safety, quality, costs, and lead times (customer satisfaction).

 

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of how a process or organization operates
    • Determine the roadmap for key projects and set priorities with management.
    • Analyze performance metrics, data, and business challenges.
    • Assess the performance of existing production facilities.
    • Identify operating modes and procedures, as well as completion times.
  • Coordinating the continuous improvement initiative
    • Initiate and lead lean management projects: reorganization and improvement of productivity, production, and ergonomics (metrics, 5S initiatives, workflow management, etc.).
    • Identify areas for improvement and the implementation of action plans related to production resources.
    • Identify and implement performance metrics.
    • Use and implement tools for continuous improvement (lean manufacturing, the Kaizen philosophy, 5S, etc.).
    • Oversee the qualification and validation phases of processes and tools.
    • Communicate with key stakeholders, including project managers and production managers.
  • Support for the implementation of improvements
    • Implement new techniques or methods for continuous improvement.
    • Support IT teams in the field and develop specifications that enable the optimization of production and the deployment of the information system in order to model analytical processes.
    • Train stakeholders on the tools and models.
    • Oversee and ensure their proper implementation.
    • Plan project-related activities.
    • Facilitate cross-functional working groups to roll out the continuous improvement process to all teams.
    • Train technical and production teams in continuous improvement tools.
    • Implement the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) approach.
    • Train and support all affected frontline staff.

Profile required

Training

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • In-depth technical knowledge

Work environment

  • Work closely with production, purchasing, quality control, and the warehouse.
  • Frequent work in workshops and logistics areas.

Experience

2 to 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the manufacturing industry

Technical skills

Technical skills

  • Mechanical Engineer or Industrial Automation Engineer
  • Proficiency in ERP production management tools.
  • Reading plans
  • Knowledge of Lean methods (Kanban, VSM, 5S, SMED, etc.).
  • Understanding industrial processes and material flows.
  • Ability to read a production schedule and bills of materials.
  • Proficiency in office software (Excel, data analysis).
