DETERMINING THE RISK CATEGORY OF A RECIPIENT SUBJECT TO DESP

The Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU applies to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of pressure equipment and assemblies with a maximum allowable pressure PS greater than 0.5 bar.

The proposed tool concerns containers only.

Container volume (V): Volume of permanent, non-removable parts. The volume of an accessory that can be disassembled cannot be deducted from the volume of the container.

Maximum allowable pressure (M.A.P.): This is the maximum pressure to which the equipment can be subjected. It is strictly greater than the maximum working pressure associated with the application. It is greater than or equal to the set pressure of safety devices.

Maximum allowable temperature (TS max): This is the maximum temperature the equipment can reach. It is strictly higher than the maximum operating temperature related to the application. It is equal to or higher than the setting temperature of safety devices.

Hazardous fluids :
Group 1 - Hazardous: Flammable, explosive, toxic fluids... A fluid can be transferred from group 2 to group 1 if the maximum TS is higher than the fluid's flash point (e.g. mineral oil).
Group 2 - Non-hazardous: All other fluids

For dangerous and unstable gases, if the category is I or II, the minimum category is III.
