Direct heating of liquids

Direct heating of liquids by natural convection (static fluid) or forced convection (circulating fluid) using shielded electric resistors is an efficient and precise solution for many industrial applications. This technology heats the liquid directly, without any intermediate heat exchange, ensuring rapid temperature rise, constant temperature maintenance or fluidization of viscous products. It is particularly well suited to processes such as maintaining water temperature (frost-free), preheating process liquids, or circulating liquids to facilitate pumping or processing (oils). Immersion heaters are the leading solution for these applications. They can be adapted to different installation and operating constraints.

Setting the scene

Indirect heating through the walls of a tank, a pipe or via a thermowell enables liquid to be heated without direct contact with the heating element. This solution offers numerous advantages: it facilitates maintenance (resistor replacement without draining the circuit), protects the fluid from any risk of degradation or contamination, and protects the heating element from the effects of aggressive fluids. This heating method is particularly well suited to maintaining the temperature of oils, heating corrosive or sensitive liquids, and installations requiring frequent cleaning, especially in the food, chemical or pharmaceutical sectors.

Setting the scene

Indirect heating, using a heat-transfer fluid (water or thermal oil) through a coil or exchanger, enables heat to be transferred to a liquid without direct contact with the electrical source. This method ensures a gradual, even and perfectly controlled rise in temperature, while limiting the risk of degradation of the heated product. It is particularly well suited to applications requiring high thermal stability, such as heating sensitive liquids, temperature control in storage tanks, or industrial processes in the chemical, cosmetics, food or pharmaceutical sectors.
