Drum heaters and container heaters
Definition and general information
Drum heaters and container heaters are designed to heat or maintain the temperature of 25 to 200-liter cylindrical drums and 1000-liter IBC containers, containing liquids, viscous products or powders.
They are widely used in various sectors (agri-food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, etc.), notably for frost protection, to maintain a constant temperature during storage or transport, or to reduce the viscosity of a fluid to facilitate pumping or transfer.
These devices take the form of flexible heating blankets designed to wrap plastic or metal drums and containers. Heat is transmitted to the product by conduction through the walls of the container.
They consist of a thermally-insulated tank containing evenly-distributed resistors, one or two adjustable-temperature control thermostats (depending on the model), a quick-release, adjustable fastening system and a power cable.
Drum heaters and container heaters are made from durable, flame-retardant materials and can operate at constant temperatures of up to 90°C.

Applications
Drum heaters and container heaters are used in a wide range of applications. Here are just a few examples:
Food industry
Heating of rapeseed or sunflower oil to facilitate pumping and mixing during production.
Freeze protection for containers containing water or cleaning/disinfecting solutions used in food industry washing processes, especially in unheated areas.
Chemistry and pharmaceuticals
Temperature maintenance of liquid or viscous components stored in drums to prevent solidification at low temperatures.
Industrial processes
Heating of paints to ensure even application during use.
Technical data
Drum heaters and container heaters consist of :
- A flexible polyester heating blanket containing evenly distributed electrical resistors. IP40 protection.
- Temperature control thermostat. 2 setting ranges: 0 to 40°C or 0 to 90°C. The thermostat is coupled to the power supply for direct control.
- An adjustable clamping device for quick mounting of the tarpaulin on the drum or container.
- 4 m power cable
Further information
- Drum heaters and container heaters are not suitable for ATEX environments.
- They are suitable for plastic drums and containers within the thermostat setting.

Recommendations
Precautions for use
The drum heater's clamping capacity matches the diameter of the drum to be fitted.
The nature of the drum or container being heated must be able to withstand the thermostat setting temperature.
Every precaution must be taken to avoid any spillage of heated product (the heating blanket envelope is not impermeable).
Installation and connection
Position the drum heater preferably at the bottom of the container to be heated (in a vertical position).
Tighten the belt with the straps, after inserting the 2 clips.
