DETERMINATION OF THE RISK CATEGORY FOR A VESSEL SUBJECT TO PED

The Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68 / EU applies to the design, manufacturing and conformity assessment of pressure equipment and assemblies with a maximum permissible pressure PS greater than 0.5 bar.

The proposed tool only concerns vessels.

Volume of the vessel (V): Volume of permanent parts, not removable. The volume of an accessory that can be disassembled can not be deducted from the volume of the vessel.

Maximum permissible pressure (PS): This is the maximum pressure to which the equipment could be subjected. It is strictly greater than the maximum service pressure related to the application. It is greater than or equal to the setting pressure of the safety devices.

Maximum permissible temperature (TS max): This is the maximum temperature that the equipment could reach. It is strictly greater than the maximum service temperature related to the application. It is greater than or equal to the setting temperature of the safety devices.

Dangerousness of fluids:
Group 1 - Hazardous: Flammable, explosive, toxic fluids ... A fluid can pass from group 2 to group 1 if the maximum TS is greater than the flash point of the fluid (e.g. : mineral oil).
Group 2 - Non Hazardous: All other fluids

In case of dangerous gas, if the category is I or II, the minimum category to considar is III
